Finally starting on my Beetle project

So after 6 years messing about with silly fwd racing I am finally getting around to building up my drag beetle project

its a 1970 bug that a friend used to race and when he put it up for sale without the drivetrain I couldn't resist ....

I have a 091 box to go in it and the first instance engine wise will be a 1641 with a 110 cam a Holset hx30 which is the smallest holset i have used

on e85 to start with and perhaps use my spare flex fuel sensor so i can run normal pump fuel on the street.

One of the big deciders on buying this car is it has already gone fast 10.8 i think was his PB and was always straight.

Its going to be a winter job to get the car working not looking to go silly in the first instance but eventuality i would like to get the car in the 11's and have most of the bits to build up a 2110 for it and have an older ball bearing gt35r to go on eventually

Looking foreword to the holset on a 1641 and seeing the numbers you get.

Managed to get a couple of bits done this weekend on the beetle, brake lines are now run and bleed out, removed the rear window and started pulling some of the old alloy panneling out to work out where to fit the 091 box

after working out the box with a t25 slave clyinder wont quite fit where I would like with the cage I moved on to starting making the loom up as the car came with very little stock loom left

I am hoping that I can move the slave over 10-15mm to clear the cage and then it should fit up, other than that its going to be moving back to a bay window bellhousing and using an aftermarket pull type slave clyinder.... does anyone have any recomendations for these?

Nice project, looks like fun.
I have had very good luck with Wilwood master and slave cylinders, Summit Racing usually has the best price.

Cheers for that, ended up going for a Wilwood slave and that worked great (used a 0.75 girling master I already had)
managed to get a few bits done over the last week, most of the stock wiring has been done, picked up some new road tyres as the old Hoosier quick times were 18 years old

they were replaced with some cooper cobra 245-50-15 as they were alot cheaper than new Hoosiers and on the track I will be running slicks anyway

I have for the moment swapped to a 002 3rib bus box as both 091 boxes I have need work.

Hoping to have the engine in the bay in the next couple of evenings

Coopers are good tires ,I've worn out a set 295 -50-15's rears , on my old Laser 917

I have the same tyres also on my buggy. They're starting to show tiny cracks on the sidewall so not much more life left in them.

I'll replace them with semi slicks.

So been a couple of years since I last updated this, I have been using the Beetle a little bit the current spec is a 1641 mostly stock with a 110 cam in it 630cc injectors and a k04-023 (1.8t TT 225hp turbo) running speeduino and a charge cooler.

I spent 2021 racing and breaking my golf and 2022 building and racing my Corrado for street weekend (UK drag and drive event) where I won fastest fwd

Spent tonight doing a compression check ( all 160-170 psi) and dropping the oil out of it. If the weather gets a bit better I hope to turn the boost up over the next few weeks.

Just Seen this. Nice Car! Why did you Not use the hx30? I Run kinda equal Brother he221 (7cm) on my 1584cc. Run 11,117s the 1/4mile with a very bad 1,902s 60ft. @1,45bar of boost this Thing spools Up very quick on 1600cc and on everything i have Seen they make 340hp+. Those k03 are fun on the Street but Fall in it's face very quick. Used them 12-10years ago on 1641cc Work fine but nothing for racing.
