Does anyone know what is involved to modify a 090 to flip the diff section?
I want to put one in my 914 and use it for AX.
(I have a good spare to work with but don't want to destroy it)
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

I don’t recall seeing that being done. Try contacting Transaxle Engineering in California. He is the biggest seller of modified 090’s for high HP applications. If anyone knows, it would be him.

Good luck!

Will do, bought a 300m input shaft, a good used 3:21 R&P and qualife diff from him a couple years ago.
(3.6R in a Vanagon project, still on back burner, but that motor would look great with a set of ITBs on it in my 914)
A fellow named Marty used to do it here, had a vw powered altered that ran a flipped diff 090 setup.

Pizzo bros ran a (IIRC) a boosted Golf/Rabbit motor mid engined, but they probably ran an 089 (same trans, different diff/bell housing like Audi 5000Ts) maybe with adapter...
Probably be easier to do same if the starters on correct side.

Marty Staggs. He's GM over at Turbosmart USA. Not sure if he's still into VW racing, but he still checks in on TS from time to time. Can't remember his screen name here.

Dave Folts is finishing up my 090 automatic in the next week. I have a Type3 flex plate, but I'm worried that the rivets will not hold up. Also, I am assuming the setback is correct for the 090, but I will need to make sure. I'm putting this behind a 2276 turbo motor build on an old ARPM case with 8 dowel crank. The ARPM case has a cutout to get at the torque converter bolts so that's nice. A few questions I have are:
Is there a better option for flex plate or will the T3 unit hold up? I thought about TIG welding the hub.
Has anyone found a source for a converter with more stall?
Does the gland nut center hole act as a guide for the converter centering post similar to a chevy crankshaft hole?

Late Vanagon or Golf/Rabbit tq converter 2700 RPM stall.
I think the 010s were used until the Mk3s, at least for awhile.
(The 010 and 090 converters are interchangeable, and from my experience also interchangeable to the 003)
the trans sections of the 090/010 are for most purposes interchangeable, minor differences but probably 95% same.
The diffs were of course totally different, and the few bits in the middle is where they differ.

There's a shop in Kennedale, Texas that does nothing but do Tq converters, from stock rebuilds to full custom work.
