. I wasn't expecting that

Lol… yes. I bid £152 and was pipped. I know of one rebuild that needs a set so would not be surprised if they won it given the only other option i know of (in the UK) is buying from Porsche. Which is circa €240

I've got a used but good set of
0. 50 case
1 mm crank
Standard thrust if of any use
Odd size I know.
I was wondering if the crank size could be made standard
But the centre main would be an issue

I can get 2,3 & 4 in standard size. But #1 in 0.5 under (case std). So would need to have that machined to fit. Will see after the case is split & measured.

Re: Upright type4 build
Just info. I'm doing the upright conversion with 2 sets of top tins.
So.
There's a reason I'm going with the steel version.
I can weld lugs onto the steel tins anywhere that's needed
Why.
So I can make side trays, or such to blank off hot air gaps etc.
So. The CSP fibreglass shrouds I have are up for grabs. Will sell at a good price. They are expensive. They are more for a type 4 into beetle I. M. O

Re: Upright type4 build
I had previously ruled out the fibreglass “tins” since the steel version is a better fit and the full kit including the plastic shrouds seemed overpriced. However, I might be interested in them as another option, especially if i do a smaller capacity engine initially. Maybe message me a price?

Hi Bruce. Are you in UK.
If you Google these cylinder shrouds, it says they need work to fit.
That's very true. I've made them fit good on 4 bolt inlet manifolds heads. The big slot where the fan housing slots into the the shrouds is too wide. That bit needs narrowing with fibreglass matting and resin to create a good fit.
These are about 10 years old.
They are for bus heads
The plug holes are on top Like bus heads.
There's some gel coat cracking
They are in one piece
Not damaged as such.
They won't be expensive.
I'll put a pic up on here tomorrow.
I've started doing my steel version of cylinder top tins. It's very time consuming to say the least.
Just info.
I've been cleaning my new case today. I used a cleaner better than petrol and a brush. It's called... Elbow Grease. A yellow liquid in a spray bottle.

Re: Upright type4 build
Yes, the tin fab takes a while. I’m not that great at welding. I have the 3&4 tin done but not finished the 1&2 side. Even after that I need to shape the sides & cut to size, plus sort the flywheel and pulley tins too (i have bug parts to cut & adjust).
But if i end up doing a mild rebuild of the 1.7 “W” the plastic shrouds would perhaps shorten the process.
And yes, I’m in the UK.

Re: Upright type4 build
OK. So on the cali up rite with the vw shrouds and the 36hp shroud. The air from the shroud goes straight down. There's an acute 90 degree bend between the fan housing and the shrouds. Is this an issue. Or is a blending of the steel shrouds to fan housing needed to get air to go over the cylinders properly.
