Hi Guys, I have picked up a Grobe 2,500 light aircraft engine, which I am hoping to turn back to a road going engine. It is 2,450cc's, 100mm bore and 78mm stroke. It has got porsche 2.0 3 stud heads and I was going to use 44 IDF's on it. I was hoping to get it to make max power at about 4,500 and perhaps red line around 5,000, as it's a lot of cc's for Porsche 2.0L heads. So my question is, has anyone got any idea what camshaft might work with this combination?
Cheers Rob

Thanks for the reply Garrick. If I'm only reving it to 5,000 rev's will single HD springs be ok?

I'd have thought so. On mine though, I do have type 1 dual springs for the inlets and singles on the exhaust though.
Problem is.
Tuning and building these engines is addictive. And you have to ask yourself, are you keeping it.
If your keeping it, and the engine is in pieces. Now is the time to do future proof upgrades.
I'm doing the welded legs onto the oil pick up tube, this stops the oil pick up threaded boss cracking due to over tightening the sump plate

Re: Camshaft choice!
I build a few engines for the Beach buggy club in the UK. I got this plane engine for silly money, so Thought I'd have a play with it lol. It needs building in a type 4 engine case, no problem, I have a few of those. They machined the crank to mount the propeler, I have found some 78mm counterbalanced cranks in Germany for £750. I need a camshaft. The cylinders are some kind of aluminium alloy which are plated! The engine had been stood for 20 or so years and a couple of rust specks has lifted some of the plateing on one cylinder, so I need to get that re-done; that is about £230. I have most of the other parts laying around. So I'll put it in my Beach Buggy and see how it goes, With all it's torque, it might make a nice camper engine!.

I seen a chap on ebay had 5 for sale. I was gunna get 1.But the gamble is what condition is the parts. Are they rebuildable, knowing my luck. I'd get 1 that's riddled with issues so I've let it go.
