I believe it's a no no. Not worth the gamble. Buy scat lifters.
Mines a Web cam with Web lifters. Looks like new after 10 years of usage.

Thank you Garrick, I have used Scat lifters with web camshafts ok. I like useing Scat camshafts in mild t1,t2 builds as the valve geomerty seems to work fine with standard length push rods, so you can use the Scat Hi rev steel pushrods, half the price of the Manton cut to length pushrods lol. I know the type 4 Scat C35 camshaft gets a lot of bad comments but I'm hoping I will still be able to use these longer VW pushrods that came with this Grobe engine if I use a Scat C35 cam but who knows! It's just a shame as the lifters in this engine are spotless. Cheers Rob.

That that is a shame. But the cam you have now, and the lifters will have a good value to them. As there tried and tested, to which, has proven there hardness and re usability

He's a tip. Put a straight edge across the cylinder spigots. If you can get a 1 thou feeler gauge or bigger between the straight edge, which goes across each pair of cylinder seating areas on both case halves, this area of the case will need attention using a bridge port to get an equally flat area for each pair of cylinders.

I don't know the timing on this camshaft but on a graph I found, the power is all in by 3,500 rev's. So I don't know if exhaust, carb's, camshaft or valve size restricts it!. It has Porsche 2.0 three stud heads. I will have to get it checked

Well. I'm sure you'll be putting the usual 40 webers or 40 dells on it. Standard 914 heads will allow it to rev also. Most new aftermarket headers will make it rev also. So it's down to cam. Common cams in UK that are available are scat cams. Uncommon cams are web. But there mostly available from CSP, which have import duty attached to them. You can't order off CSP unless it's 200 euros. Import duty is near 50 quid on a 200 euro order.

Ive got a web 86A and followers forsale. Absolutely like new condition. Followers have been bagged and marked as to what valve they belong to on refit. £400
The price for a new cam and followers off CSP is 803 euros plus inport tax. So there is a good saving here.
