why the hell is this happening, at idle, when i step on the gas slightly, the rpms will drop. i cant get the rpms to rev steady unless im past about 2000 in which case the car runs nicely. its a pain in the ass to shift out of first and reverse because of this. ive set my valves and points to perfection, no vacuum leaks, choke is good. could it be my timing? im at 30 degrees(set to the notch on the stock pulley, read my other post) with a 009 and 34pict carb (1971 bug stock, except for 009) this problem has happened to me before and it seemed like it goes away and comes back without reason. It is less notceable when the choke is closed on first start up. i dunno, is this the "flat spot" characteristic of the 009? everyones been bashing it lately. also, moving my accelerator pump pressure up seems to help, but only slightly, what can i do to get my car running right again, this is really getting to me. any help would be much appreciated! thanks

You got it! 009 and 34 pict do not work together. Change to dual carbs like K-duds or better or put the stock dizzy back in. An 009 does not give the advance required off idle that a stock engine needs.

Yep, that stumble has always been around with the 009.
Stick a vacuum advance distributor back in and you will m=notice an improvement in the drive quality.

More precisely, the advance curve of the 009 doesn't match up with the enrichment curve of the 34 pict. By the time you overtweak the accelerator pump and linkage to get your acceleration right....you probably will be running horribly rich. Ray

Well, yes, all of the above is true, HOWEVER, if you are dead set on running a 009 it can be made to work. go to this page http://www.w-p-c.com/buggy.htm and read all of it, it tells how to set up both the carb and distributor to make it run well and not die out. I have ridden in a car w/ these mods, and it does work well. Good Luck,

Hey Jordan, that is a great website with some good tech in there. I have three or four 009's and one stock engine, I think I will try and see what happens. Thanks.
