suggetions for a 1776

hey, i have a '69 beetle that i just got not too long ago. as of right now, it has a completely stock 1600 single port engine. i've really been considering getting a 1776 longblock. i don't drive the car all that hard but i do feel i need a little more power. is this a good idea? how reliable is this engine? can i get a fairly stock 1776 longblock and convert some parts off the engine i have now? all the information i can get would be greatly appreciatted.
