Hydraulic lifters.

Post by graeme86 »

Has anyone fitted the Waterboxer hydraulic lifters to a Type 1 aircooled engine? What diameter are they? What size are the oil pump gears in a waterboxer?

Hydraulic lifters.

The current production Mexican 1600s use the Waterboxer hydraulic lifters. They are the same as the type 4 lifters, so use a larger lifter bore. The case casting was changed to make the lifter bosses larger to allow for the new lifters without creating too thin a wall. I wouldn't machine an old case to fit them. New Mexican cases are available from the new casting, with either the hydraulic lifter machining or the mechanical.
Factory built hydraulic lifter longblocks are available at pretty good prices - see www.btlmex.com. Btlmex also sells the hydraulic lifters for about $5 US ea.
