I was going to do some wiring on my Baja and was looking into tail lights, when I relalized normal aftermarket taillights wont work. Only Tail and stop-turn combo. The VW uses Tail, stop and turnsignal.
What has anyone done. No turnsignals? 2 differnt lights?
Thanks

Prior to `62 (and `72 in most buses) VWs only had 2 filaments per side in back also, with the brakelight power passing through the t'signal switch just like most American cars used to have.
If you don't want to change the t'signal switch there are a couple of ways to deal with it - you can rig diodes and resistors up or just buy a solid-state adapter made for connecting 2-filament trailers to 3-filament tow vehicles - should be available at your FLAPS or: http://www.jcwhitney.com/item.jhtml?ITE ... 96&BQ=jcw2

I guess I should have said it is a 76 Std Bug...
I want to wire it for towing too, so that would work out just fine.. Thanks...

Now I'm confused. You're towing the `76 and want to use 2-filament-per-side "trailer" taillight assemblies on it? What will you be towing it with, a car/truck with 3-filament-per-side taillights? If both statements are true then that adapter will do it.
They also make one that adapts a 2-wire tow vehicle to a 3-wire towed vehicle (without it all you could do is use the same filament for brake and turn, and since there's only one brake light wire through the car that means yellow brakelights if you don't rearrange wires at the back of the towed vehicle).

Well The Baja is a 76 Std Bug with factory wiring. The tow Vehicle could be my sons truck, my Vanagon Syncro or???? My Passat had the Euro to USA blinker box conversion so that I could use a flat 4 "boat" plug.
