if those are psi figures, then you have a real problem with the heads or rings.

Is the motor turning over quick, or barely turning?

Rebuilt by Who? Have you checked valve clearance ? Story is missing a few lines. And why a new starter ? Do you have the idiots book ? Good trouble shooting guide there/ Sounds like a readjust, rebuild prob. got fuel , got spark ( be carefull with that one ) at the proper time, and compresion. Well why low compresion? So far you have ansered your own Question. One more thing even my wife knows not to do what you did to that poor engine, A 50$ tow would be better then grinding it home.

It got hot and all the valves tightened up...Adjust the valves and it'll be just fine..

When an aircooled engine loses power PULL OVER as you are baking the engine, guaranteed.

I PUT IN A NEWLY REBUILT ENGINE IN MY 1970 WESTY. THE ENGINE HAS BEEN IN THE CAR ABOUT 4 WEEKS ABOUT 400 MILES. THE OTHER DAY I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY AT 55 MPH AND WAS LOSING POWER. I DOWN SHIFTED INTO 3RD AND WAS STILL LOSING POWER. I GOT THE BUS HOME AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO START IT SINCE? I CHECKED BATT. OK, CHECKED COIL OK, CHANGED STARTER, GEN LIGHT COMES ON WHEN I TRY TO START. CHECKED FUEL PUMP/FILTER OK. I did a comprestion ck. and 1=30,2=20,3=10,4=10
what has happened to engine? have i done something or is somthing wrong with engine?????????????????????please help

First off, I think you'd better recheck the compression as I find it extremely hard to believe an engine would even run at all with numbers that low.

And as Jake said, check and adjust your valves. Tight valves (which occur after break in and with accumulated mileage in general) will cause low compression because they don't seal tightly against the seat (in the head) and allow compression to blow right past them (if it builds at all).

Tight valves also lead to early death because they don't have full contact with the seat (head) to transfer the heat out of them.

PS Please turn off your cap lock as it appears as if you're SHOUTING at everyone. Thanx

Make sure you compression check with the carb at wide open throttle too, that makes a big difference as you are fighting vacuum otherwise.
