What cam should I use?

Post by muffdog69 »

I am looking to build a 94 x 82 engine and it will be somewhat of a daily driver. What web cam should i go with and rocker ratio. how about the heads and carburators.

What cam should I use?

On my 2276, I ran a webcam 86b with 1.4:1 rockers, 48IDF carbs, and level 6 heads from AC.Net. The car was a full on daily driver, even when we topped out at 120 degree's that summer, and it never skipped a beat. The cam wasn't too 'lopey', so it idled nice and pulled hard all the way to 7k. I could cruise around at 2Krpm, and put the pedal down to pass someone, and not have to worry about downshifting. It was sweet. Also got 19 mpg around town, and 24.5 mpg on the highway.

I sold my level 6 heads, intakes, and 1 5/8" berg header to a friend in Alaska, that had a 2276 (also) that he wanted to upgrade.

I have since picked up a 1 7/8" header, a larger cam, and got some CB Comp Eleminator heads 48x38 (which I'll try not to get into that part), and somewhere in the middle of that, I sold my car, and picked up another bug that i'm working on now (or, not working on for the last couple months because of new baby), and snagged a race gear box from Tom Simon. I still need to purchase some of John's Squishy pistons, and a safegaurd for it, to finish the motor the way I want it, and, as far as the car goes, I've got the body and paint done, now I just have to finish puting it together.

I just need another $4K to get it done, sans interior, so I can take it down the track. Maybe it'll be running by next Phoenix. Wait, I said that last year. LOL
No more babies on the way, so maybe it'll happen this year.
:-)
