zinc plating

Post by jstorngmo »

Has anyone had hardware zinc plated for their vehicle? I keep reading about resto's in the magazines and they mention having the hardware zinc plated, but all of the zinc-plating places I have contacted will not do jobs that small.

Thanks,
Joe

zinc plated hardware is just galvanized.

they probably wont do that job because you can buy the pieces already galvanized.

zinc oxidizies really fast and creates a barrier over the steel fastener to prevent it from oxidizing. But the zinc can chip of if you hit hard enough. that is why i like stainless hardware cause no matter how hard you hit it it wont rust cause its stainless all the way through.

I was about to say the same thing, order high-strength stainless bolts instead. Better then Zinc, probably cheaper then plating your old bolts too.
