Parts list check for stock rebuild of 78 GE for Westy camper

Post by dstar5000 »

OK guys! Starting the rebuild on the stocker for the westy and I'm
running down the parts list..... anybody got suggestions for
forgotten/missing parts?

What I got:

GE case, tapped, cleaned and plugged....ready to go!
STD, polished, mic'd, "blessed" 71mm crank
Used/good gears & original woodruff key.
Rods, used Type IV...haven't found anyone to "bless" these yet....
VW, 72-77 factory replacement "M" camshaft/gear, still in the
box/cosmoline.
New 914 lifters from CB.
New Maxi pump for Type IV from CB.
New, STD cam, main and rod bearings.
Gasket set.
Front and rear main seals.
Orig oil cooler, cleaned and pressure checked to 100PSI.
Dual terminal oil pressure sender for VDO guage.
Pressure plate w 10K miles.
P&Cs, pins and rings w 10K miles.

What I know I need:

Racer spacer for Type IV or used original?
Cam plug, where for a Type IV?
Flywheel washer(mine's screwed from the factory installation)
Set of push rods for solid (M) camshaft
Have flywheel checked/surfaced(local)
New clutch disk 78 091
TO bearing for 78 091
3 Oil filters 1Pukalator, 2 HP1s....
4 quarts 30w dino oil

Anybody help me figure out what I left out and where I can get it?

Thanx!

You didn't mention heads...rebuilt (valves, guides, seats)? cc'd?

Tools for checking endplay and deck height? Barrel spacers (if you'll need them)?

Got Permatex 3H?

I would highly recommend a dynamic balancing also. Got mine done at a race shop for $100. Flywheel, crank with gears installed, rods, pistons pins & clips, fan.

In my gasket kit there wasn't one for the oil breather.

Oh yeah, get a case of Castrol HD30W oil.

I am rebuilding a *longblock* purchased last summer from a local that,
at least, had the heads done(NO bottom end work at all...) because the
bottom end rattles like ball bearings in a coffee can....so heads are cool.
I only have 18-20K miles on his *rebuild*, so I'm using the *new*
pistons/pins/clips too. Still looking for economical, rebuilt type IV rods.
Mine has been pronouonced *good* by the local shop, but I haven't
tested the pin fit yet. All that will come when it's time to start the
build/mockups.

Got the tools, haven't mocked up anything yet, so there will
be *one more order*.... HAHAHAHAHA! for things like that.

Oh yea!

NAPA quoted me $120, so after I statically balance everything, I will
carry it to them. Gotta get SOME use out of those triple beams
nowadays...

I check that, thanks!

Gonna break her in with high zinc oil for diesels, but going to use Castrol
30W until about 5000 miles....then go to 10-30.

Thanks guys and yes, I need the disk, but the TO bearing only has 18-20K,
so I can use it if I can't come up with another. Email me your price and particulars,
MO, paypal, whatever payment you need and I'll get it on the way.
