Deep Scratches!

Post by AirJose »

I have removed 7 coats of paint and and primer. Someone use a grinder and put deep scratches on the metal. I used some 40 grit and a lot of 100 grit sanding but the scratches are there! Now what should I do?. Thanks in advance, :( Jose

You'll have to primer the bare metal, sand after a few coats of primer and see if the scratches still appear. If so a little body filler will be needed. Some primers are made to hide imperfections on the body.

Jose - When they say "high build" primer, they're not kidding. You'll be amazed at how thick a paintable coating will go on. Spray - wait - spray -wait, etc. You can get the high build primer on almost as thick as glazing putty. If one shooting doesn't get you there, go back for another dose.

If the scratches are really so deep that high build won't get you there, you'll have to use glazing putty or bondo. But the high build would be best, plus it'll give you some practice with the spraygun. You'll be wanting the practice soon, since paint is next!
