Engine Block Painting?

Post by volkyland »

I'm in the process of rebuilding the 1600cc engine on my 1971 Ghia. Block is nice and clean. Wondering is paiting the engine block with high temp spray paint will be something bad for the engine. I heard it retains more heat than normal. Any comments?

Engine Paint

Post by 69SQBCK »

I used a high heat primer and than painted with a 1200 deg. ceramic based engine paint. I have not had a problem with it but it's a type 3 and runs hot anyway.

Last 15-20 I have built were painted with no issues. I also paint the cylinders black. They look good and don't rust. Push tubes too.

POR-20 Silver

Por-20 silver is beautiful stuff. I did my exhaust on the thing with it. Its bright metallic silver that bakes on when the engine heats up (doesn't actually cure until it hits 3-400*). Tough stuff too. Its guarantied to 1400*. You can spray it with a hvlp can. Good luck.
