using bondo

Post by Guest »

hello everybody

i've just finished fixing some rust in my car, i've welded some patches and now i need to use a bondo to make the surface smooth as possible, my question is - should i paint the surface with primer and than use bondo or clean the metal and use the bondo on a bare metal?

Bondo brand, or a different brand?

PPG makes a primer called dp. Its great stuff,once the area is properly cleaned and prep apply one wet coat and let set for one hour then you can put your bondo. After you're done with the sanding and shaping you apply one coat again let set for one hour and then apply your primer surfacer.

Any rust repair should have a rust killer primer over it......ive done tests over years.......

First on bare metal use POR15s Metal Ready to coat up the rust particles.....You should have an air compressor to blow all the water out.....water and metal dont mix well and it gets in cracks it stays.....scuff than bondo....that scares me when thiers rust involved...

Eastwoods rust encapsulator over the bare metal......its a lacquer primer ....scuff than bondo

Than your primer which i use Duponts Nasons Ful Fill for sanding till ya puke......its also a lacquer primer.....they bond well together.......

Than topcoat or go epoxy primer or.......make sure your primers are compatible....
