Bondo between layers prep

Post by Punchbuggy Buddy »

One quick question for you guys. Between layers of bondo after sanding, and even before the first coat for that matter, what should a guy clean the surface with? Basically to get rid of the dust and any grime that may prevent the bondo from sticking properly.
Thanks, Russell :?:

You wanna use a Solvent. Prep Sol Sovlent is very good. Look for a tar and grease remover and that should be fine.

whatever you use to clean the bare metal should leave no residue whatsoever (I've used acetone with success). Be careful using a solvent on the bondo (test on a hidden area to make sure it doesn't soften the filler).

What I do is;
After sanding, I spent more than a few minutes hitting the area w/ compressed air. I aim directly at the surface and hit it with short bursts. This not only clears away dust, it reveals any pits in the surface. Also hit your featheredges, especially where they meet metal. Then a wipe w/ a cloth dampened (not soaked) w/ Acetone. It should evaporate instantly.
I also try not to touch the repair area bare-handed. A paper towel under your fingers greatly enhances your sense of feel.
