I'm going to be replacing my battery tray and support this winter/spring in my 914. As long as I was going to be in there, I thought I might as well clean up and repaint the engine compartment since it's looking shabby in a few areas.
My concerns are about spraying the metallic paint that my car has. I've got a funny feeling that it is going to be a pain. I had a rattle can mixed up for me quit awhile ago that I've used before. The metallic seemed to run to the low points. It felt like I would need like 50 thin coats to make it look good.
My plan is to get an HVLP detail gun from HarborFreight. I believe the tip size is 1.0mm...? Hopefully this gun will work fine for what I will use it for.
Anyone have any more tips?
