Oil Leak

I have a stock 1600 dp. I have oil leak from behind the crank pulley. It only happens when i get into 3rd gear. Well thats when i notice the smoke and stench from the oil. I know its from the pulley area because after a drive i always have oil slung in a line from the pulley. Am i building to much pressure and need ventilation? Can i cure this with a sand seal? Or do i have other problems all together.

The crankcase has too much internal pressure and the oil is being forced past the oil slinger. You should vent both valve covers and install a breather.

If you have a hose running from the generator stand to the air cleaner, make sure it is clear. Unless there's a problem with the rings (allowing excess blow-by), that vent should be plenty for a stock 1600. If the stock vent is blocked or kinked, oil will exit through the next easiest opening. If it's fine, adding vents to the valve-covers treats the symptom, not the cause.

I also have the same problem.
Bit I though my rebuilt 1641 was just going south
So I pull my 1776 out of my other car and it started doing
EXACTLY the same oil aroung crankcase pulley
I have taken a set of valve covers
added vent pipes and will run them this sat to a bug pack
collection box.
I sure hope this relives the pressure.
