SCAT Split-Port Heads
Has anyone used Scat split-port heads before on there type 4? If so how was the install? I'm trying to get a feel for after market heads for my rebuild coming up. Thanks for the help.

Talk to Bobtail--- The 911 heads setup might work out less expensive by the time you get it finished...
I looked at the split ports a few years ago, and by the time you actually had all the parts actually required (not knowing about the fit issues) it was going to cost more than twice what they advertise.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

All I can tell you is, if I were you I wouldnt touch them with a 50 ft....no excuse me 400 ft pole pole if you can help it. I ran them on my 2600 cc t4 and had valves locking up in the heads do to lack of oil the valve stems would recieve. The engine would run for maybe 5 to 10 minutes then a valve would lock up and good ol' mister piston would be right there to ram that vanvle home bent. Not to mention that they leak like niagra falls and is pretty much impossible to setup rocker arm geometry. And if you do decide to get them stay away from the .687 rocker shafts. Do yourself a favor and buy .707's. Scat never stocks the .687 rockers and you are forced to but Autocraft needle bearing rockers which wear quikly. One last thing. GOOD LUCK finging a pushrod tube. T4-T1 tubes are hard to come
lol

Sound like a voice of experience.
:-(
I feel your pain.
I cannot honestly say I have ever spoken to anyone with any good words about the split ports...

The only person I have spoken with that seems to love these heads is Damon Harmon. He seems to swear by them and by how fast his Quater Toy is I wouldnt doubt his exp. with them has been a good one. I have never used them on a Type 1 but Im sure its much less involved getting them to work right on type 1's then type 4's.

Im sure Scat wont move on that either. If I recall...in the machining process I lost a whole fin on each head to get type 4 barrels to seat, and one fin on those heads is 20 % of the heads cooling! Thats one thing they could imporve on. The most irratating thing about all of this is that while going through all of my problems with these heads the least help came from Scat. They had so little knowledge of their own product it was embarrasing.

the Split ports I got on my 2600 type 4 are running well, Had to build valve oil squirters to stop seizing valves, But 50 by 40, type 1 plug location, and exhaust location, type 1 exhaust, (moded a little) all worth it to me, oil cools the heads, running with not much problems now, cooled by DTM, 9.9CR, in California Now
fits in car well, exhaust is perfect fit, plenty of room either side, not any harder to fit then other type 4 stuff, and maybee the same as any dual carbed type 1.
