82mm Stroker
Can a type 4 engine be built around an 82mm stroker with chevy rod journals? Example: 101 x 82 (2628cc)? Would a fifth head stud be needed to securely seal the cylinder to the head? Just wondering!

Absolutely....... It damn sure ain't easy!
five and six studding is just a band aid to HELP an illness of poor parts and improper expansion with the engine...
any bore over 96 requires Nickies (if you ask me) and thats the only way I build the big boys....
Going to anything beyond a 78 stroke complicates things tremendously. Going with anything beyond an 80 stroke complicates things to the point that you better be patient.... Going to an 82 stroke complicates things so badly that most of them never get finished....
Anything more than that and your just insane, or kin to me and like to make things fit!
The key is efficiency! The bigger it is the harder it is to make efficient!

So about the most efficient way an engine anyone can build, that is proven, and without having to use nickies, is a 2270 (96 x 78.4).
Now would the 1.7L Q heads be better for the bigger displacement engine because of the way the head bolt pattern is or is it the same as using the 1.8/2.0 L heads?

It's my understanding that the CB Super Race Rods (part # 1289?) are pretty much already clearanced (rod caps) enough to just drop in. Will these rods work?
I know you mentioned Jake that there was a set of rods that the caps had to be clearanced too much which made them weak but I don't remember was make you stated they were.
