Reverse problem

I have '72 westy with a 1700. I'm having a problem with reverse. It goes into gears 1-4 fine, but I can only barely reach reverse. The van will go into reverse,but pop out as soon as the clutch is engaged. Is this just a worn clutch or is it time for a rebuild? Please help?

Yep, the reverse is worn out. This is a VERY common problem. You should always hold the shifter into the reverse position while in reverse (even after getting it fixed), and never put much power to it in reverse..
