I've had my super at 90 going down a Raton Pass into Colorado. 85 on a flat, that was the fastest for a stock 1600. As far as other cars go, why don't you all tell what kind of cars you have gone fast in rather than saying how fast in a non VW. I have held(30 min) 125 in my '97 328is BMW and touched 133 almost 135 before in the same car. The car is stable and the engine sounds great. 125 with my wife in car and 133 with her also. She would not put up with 133+ for long.

I have had my car pinned at well over 100. Not sure how fast I was going but I was keeping up with my friends POS ricer honda thing.
It was for well over a mile and my head temps shot well up...
There was alot of wheel vibration towards the end, but other wise it handled fine.
its a 1915 with dual 44 idfs 1 5/8ths header/phatboy

Re: High Speeds
I had a 1600cc up to about 105 in 3rd(didn't want to try 4th because the car itself wasnt very stable). I also had a 2165cc that I rolled the 100mph speedo to about 10-15mph( approx 135mph if it was accurate). I only held it there for a few minutes because I didn't trust my tires. The car felt stable but any headwind or sidewind could have been bad news.TKisner wrote:Hello, Euro Look or at least my interpretation of it has particular emphasis on high speeds with handling to boot. I was wondering exactly what is the high speed you guys have ever driven in your volkwsagon as well as what is the highest speed you have ever maintained for a couple minutes. Thanks alot

in my 72 bug with 1915, scat h beam rods, dpr forged crank, 120 cam with straight cuts, 8.8-1 cr, 042 p/p heads and dual 44 ids and stock tranny i hit 85 in 3rd. fastest ive been is around 110-115 about 5000 rpms. but the engine can go up to about 6400, or thats the farthest ill take it. on the freeway, i cruise at 85-87 with oil temps not going past 205 degress. it was also built by me

Very impressive for a 1600. What were the stats on that engine?

Re: High Speeds
Very close. It was actually 7200rpm. I need to make a correction to the above engine specs. The exhaust was 1 5/8. This was an old engine of mine. My current one is about the same but running higher CR, an Engle 130 cam, and I pulled the venturi out of the carbs. This one is much, much faster as you can see from the times below.jasonb wrote:That's 7000rpm....I had a 1600cc up to about 105 in 3rd(didn't want to try 4th because the car itself wasnt very stable)...
