COOL THAT MOTOR!
Ok guys,
where i live in nor-cal, it gets around 110-115 in the summer.
I just bought a 67 bug with a stocker 1500.
What reccomendations do you guys have to keep this thing cool?
I would like to add an external oil cooler with a fan to start. What is the best way to do this without pulling the motor and machining the case for full flow?
Any other ideas you guys have to keep this thing cool, PLEASE let me know!
Thanks!

Hey Jake,
what do you mean by "in tune"? I've never heard of that kind of a statement before. Can you please explain? I need all the advise i can get. It gets mighty hot up here!
I'm guessing,, you mean a motor that is perfectly tuned,,, correct compression, timing, carburation, oiling system,,, ect...
Please explain?

He means that as long as the motor is tuned correctly (points/timing are right, carb has the correct mixture, etc.) and all your engine tin is in place; then that 1500 should not run hot.craigman wrote:Hey Jake,

If you want a little bit of leeway, then you could convert it to a doghouse cooling set up and it would help out some.

It's an ACC setup for a type IV with porsche heads. The extracraigman wrote:Hey Dstar,
what is that trick little setup you have there!
That give the word "WAY COOL!!" a new meaning!!
75 amp alt runs ONLY the fan!

I'm gonna fill in the spark plug cutouts and recut it for the 79 SQR
ports I gots.
It's going on the Drag car, so I'm really not worried if it cools real
well, it will only run for 3-4 minutes at the time......

Thanks for the reply guys,,
Jake, so what timeing, point gap, jet size, ect. do you reccomend for my little 1500?
It's a completely stock single port motor. All tin is in tackt, and i have a complete tune up kit ready to go on. (including a carb kit)
My elevation where i live is at 500 ft.
Thanks again for the any advise.

Re: COOL THAT MOTOR!
All of those modifications are great when you rebuild an engine, but if your engine is running fine, don't mess with it. Like Jake says, get the engine "in tune" and drive it.craigman wrote:Ok guys,

Give the car a tune up, change the oil, and make sure the fan belt and rubber hoses are in good shape.
It's not a race car, but you'll do fine on any road, any weather.
