Testing underway - AWESOME new Engine management system
WOW guys!
All I can say is that this guy and his system that he has made FROM SCRATCH kick ass!
Dave showed up yesterday afternoon and every since we have all been amazed with what this system incorporates and his knowledge! He fits in quite nicely around here.... all day the dyno room and control room were running crazy anticipating the firing of the EMS on the dyno.
Fiddling with the EMS through the laptop is neat, but I can't wait to do it through a palm pilot!
We got the engine fired up today and willpost some graphs tomorrow. we have a fuel pressure regulator problem right now but that will be remedied tomorow with a better regulator.
The test engine is a 3563 TIV "Super hero" and has 12 power pulls on it with carbs and a dizzy. Now all that has been replaced with dave's system, 45mm Jenvey throttle bodies, and the dizzy was tossed for a direct fire system that his EMS II incorporates.
His system is so simple, so easy to work with and it uses hyperterminal to communicate with the EMS.. Its so much easier than Autrnic or SDS and has less parts and confusion.
Look for this to be added as an option on all my engines very soon! I will be installing a version of it on the 912E very soon for some hard road miles, to continue our testing with it.
I don't like the stock FI system, but man... with this EMS all the crap is removed and nothing is left but clean, simple work.. the system can be ran with individual runners, or with a 100% stock plenum and runners and even the stock sensors.
The 2270 "Roller Motor" will also incorporate this system...
Get in line boys, this is the best thing since sliced bread! Hell the engine cranked on the 3rd revolution and purred like a kitten!
FYI- This is the FIRST aftermarket EFI system that I have had good things to say about.

I've always liked the idea of FI but, the maintainance (if there is any) is a mystery to me. Carbs I can tune and adjust. Jets can be cleaned. What do you do when EMSs do whatever they do? Say you get it all dialed in and one day it isn't running up to par. What is involved in keeping it working its best?

I saw the set up and it does look amazing. Got to Jake's about 10 last night and all he kept saying is that this guy is out there. How many of us know Jake is out there. It would be a waist of time for me to meet Dave because I can't follow some of Jakes conversations about engines. I would look dumb listening to Dave talk electronic.
I've been up to Jake's a few times this year and everytime I go there is something new and amazing. The feeling I had before meeting Jake was that classic VWs must be getting to the point of no-return. My thoughts have changed!
THANK YOU to all who keep the scene alive. I've been in for 13 yrs and look forward to every year that I have with VWs.
New heads, Fuel Injection......can't I just get my engine in my car. Jake you are making the type IV engine seem like a computer, out of date before it hits the shelf.
THANKS
