DPR 69mm crankshaft

Post by super vw »

Is $125 shipped for a fresh (german core) DPR C/W crankshaft a good price?

i think so. i paid a hundred bucks for one about 5 years ago plus $25 more i think because i didn't bother with the core. and it was about $25-$30 for shipping

it's working good so far. the motor(1915) only has 13000 miles on it but they have been rather hard. nothing serious, occasional oil starvation in rough terrain, missed shift every now and then, etc. and i just love that 3rd gear pull to 70

i can't remember where i got it but the bearing on one end wouldn't go on. i took it to a shop to have it mic'ed and it was way out. it was a .020 under crank and the oversize journel was larger than .010 so they did something to that journal but never finished it, i guess. anyway, i sent it back(may have been barnett? or barret? they're out of business now) and got another that was not only good but .010 under.

the only thing that sucked was i was really sick at the time and i ended up eating all of the shipping . i happened to have a lot of cash from an inheritance and was just too sick to fight with them over it. oh well. they're gone now. good crank, though

Jose's (DPR) cranks are well worth the money, I would rate them up with Berg's 69 journal cranks and I have both. I'm pretty sure Jake Raby uses his cranks as well (might be type 4 tho) and recommends DPR...good enuf for me

cool, question for Jake...

Sweet, its on its way as we speak :D

Anyways Jake, I am still not sure about that 122/125 WebCam... I know your all for WebCams but you dont see to many people use this cam (this is a good and bad thing to me). The only thing holding me back is the question of if it's really worth the price( their like $90 bucks right?) over the Engle... how much more power and torq would this cam provide over an Engle w-120?

My combo is this:
-1914cc
-CB 044 40/35.5mm heads (dual valve springs)
-40mm Dellorto with 36mm vents
-1 5/8 headers
-8.5:1 comp (or is a higher recomended?) Im at 3,000-4,000 feet in elevation and can only get 91 octane at the pump.

This ia an engine going to run almost daily, and for Auto cross and some road racing.

Thanks guys,
Jonathan R

The reason that you don't see many people running it is because it doesn't use ratio rockers. I like stock rockers and their self oiling abilities..
Stock rockers don't multiply spring tension by their ratio and wear cams and lifters as badly!

Also, the headwork makes a difference as well... Our head designs really like these cams, I don't use but a couple of straight pattern cams, almost everything needs some help on one side of the cam or the other..

Combo looks good to me, its almost exactly what I am using for my 1915, but I am using an engle 110 and some kad-like carbs.

gears SLIDE ON!

Post by super vw. »

Well i got the crank few weeks ago but havent been home to test fit things.
i got around to fitting the crankshaft gears and what do you know... they just slide right on (stock gears) so this is not right. so i tryed my Magnum straight cut cam gear on the crank and it fits like it should (by heating the gear and cooling the crank) but the distributor gear still slides on with some force... not much though (hands only)... so is the DPR crank i got messed up? and why does the new magnum gear work and not the stock gears?

Thanks,
Jonathan
