David, while you are installing the Kafer 5 go ahead and weld the frame horns if you have not. Ask Jake.

Sorry Ron....you will have to get your engine first. J/K

Where the frame horns are spot welded together you grid down the inside and outside just a very small amount to clean up the mateing surface and that is where you weld. The two halves, top and bottom, are spot welded on the flat spot and Jake suggests that the ends are welded up for more strength. Starting at the end: weld 4 inches and then skip 4 inches and continue this all the way to the tortion bars. On the inside and outsides of the frame horns. Did I explain that enough? :?

DAVID, what is the price for that brace? Can you find out so that I might be able to stop the one from Top Line. That brace is SOOOOOOOO cool. I don't know what good it really does but it looks tough.

Thanks Bert. That was very clear, But if I have to get the engine first, is it OK if I weld the seems before I put the engine in? :D

No clue on the price or availability of that brace. I'd phone or email 'power tuning parts' to ask as their website is blank.

No room for a spare! Thought I'd mention it. Not like I can put a full size spare in mine given the stock trunk as is, but with that X brace, no spare at all is my guess...

VERY funny Ron!

What do you mean no room for a spare? Don't you have a super? You can still keep the spare, you would just have to be able to undo the front section of the brace to get the spare out.

Got a pic of a super with an X brace? I visualize it going thru the middle of the spare :?

There was a picture or two on www.germanlook.com but I can't find it.

Dave, the brace goes to the top of the spare just under the lip where the hood closes. You can still keep the spare because the brace does not go down into the well.

Buy it! I think you need it! You can't live without it!

Someone stick a picture of one installed up so he can see it in a car, please.

If you look at the pics on Ebay of the ISP bar, it looks like the attatchment to the top of the shock tower will require a chunk of metal to be removed from the body around the access hole to the shock bolt. The prescott bar just fits into the hole.

The Tractor Supply Braces are still only ~$100, not lightweight, totally preloadable... And suitable for wheelie bar mounts if you set it up right.

I think Tuna put my pics up on his site...
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

I couldn't find them. The tractor parts are similar to turnbuckles and are used as part of what is called a 3 point hitch. Alone they would only make up a "2 bar st up" lacking the horizontal bar, right? How did you do yours?

Thanks
