Psscht, Psscht, Psscht

My dad's 1835 (mild performance, dual kadrons and such) has an interesting situation. He told me that it makes a psscht noise before the engine fires up in the morning. After that you cant hear it and it runs great. He says he hasnt really noticed a lack of power. I told him to pull the coil wire and let me hear it.

Once the engine started turning over, it made a Psscht Psscht Psscht which seemed kinda like it was happening once per rotation (one cylinder cracked?)

The engine only has 12,000 miles on it, but it does have GEX heads (no other GEX parts). What is going on here?

Sounds like a loose head. Probably tightens up a little when warming up.

Tell him don't worry. The GEX heads well eject themselves soon.

Can always check the torqe on the lower head studs by removing the rocker bar. At least give you an idea where to look if you need to tear it down.
I dig all cars, whether old, new, hammered out of Japanese tin cans, American iron, or German steel.

Yeah, the lowers are a little more likely to be loose too, due to the force the pushrods and seals put on them when torquing down. If they settle out, the lower ones can come loose a little sooner than the uppers.
