Royal Purple oil...

Post by scott s »

Jake, I know you're a big fan of Royal Purple. Synthetics have come along way lately.
Do they cause a properly assembled engine to leak or weep oil more than dino oils?
If you've always ran dino in an engine, is there a problem with switching over? Any particular procedure to do this or just make the switch?
What weight do you reccomend for the Southeast?
Does it benefit the head temps as well as oil temps?
Does it free up any HP?
Anything you can share with us on this topic?
Thanks!

Do some searches. I have shared alot about synthetics here...

They can create leaks if the engine doesn't have adequate sealants and has some excess crankcase pressure thats not being relieved.

Royal Purple rules.

I think I am going to bite the bullet and source some of this stuff for my new engine from you Jake. Any particular one to use?

I have noticed that they do a transmission oil too... Worth getting for my trans from you?

Cheers,

Just go to your local parts store. If you live in a town larger than a postage stamp then you'll probably have atleast a half dozen sources for the synthetics. Let Jake stock the things we can't easily abtain locally, DTM's, Cams, new an improved lifta's etc., why pay the extra shipping when you can drive to the corner and pick-it up locally (Unless it fits into the T4 store plans).

Once again Jake thanks for all the help and for sticking around so we can all benefit from your knowledge

For those who didn't know, Pepboys recently started carrying Royal Purple, for about 6 dollars a quart. Expensive stuff, but cheaper than buying it at JEGS (which suprised me).

Anyone know where you can buy it cheaper?

Its alot cheaper where I live, but I use amsoil synthetic, which costs about .50-1.00 more a quart.

Seriously consider tossing that Amsoil- Worst synthetic I ever attempted to test.

Does royal purple back up extended drain intervals for manufacture's warrantees like amsoil?

Thanks,

I've been using Royal Purple since 1996 and it does support the longer OE drain intervals of 5k, 10k, and 15k (with recommended filter change at 7500-10000 mi). They do have two different lines, one of which is a racing (w/ detergents o.k. for street) which have increased amounts of their synterlec additives. I personally run it in all my vehicles. I am going to be trying out a few other synthetics including diesel oils and other premium labels like Motul and Redline (currently in a fiat 903cc revver and works great!).
