I have a '67 bug and I want the euro look. The car is in good shape, with only minor surface rust that I know of. The thing is my dad thinks that the car should be restored stock. Would it be vw blasphamy if I had the body shaved and the dash smoothed? Other than those two mods a future "stockification" is possible, right
I would like to hear people's opinion
Should I "Euro" a good condition '67

I'm with dad on this one. The car can only lose value the further it departs from stock. It's your car and nobody can stop you from doing whatever you want to of course, but you asked for opinions.
My opinion is that you should find a SuperBeetle if you want to build a EuroLook car. It's not only more appropriate for the project, you won't piss off as many purists.

Im doing a Super and a 67 right now as well and would recommend
that you dont modify the 67. Restore it to stock. You would be better
off doing the super as they look the part more for the euro look and
for a daily driver they will drive way better then a modded 67.
If you really desire to modify a 67 beetle into the Euro look. THere
are plenty of 67s that have already been given the cal look treatment
from the 80s. So instead of modigying another 67, find one that has
already been shaved and customized by someone else!!! Recycle Baby!!!

Now I'm thinking about doing what seems to be very popular in europe now.
Take that '67 and restore the body stock-like a la "the new cal-look"
Then use standard euro look items such as porsche 3 piece rims, type 4 power, racing seats, a suspention that accually works well, porsche stoppers, and so on.
And I will not chop up the body and dash, so I can stock it later.

You can black out the trim to avoid the body work. Smoothing the dash isn't really a German Look necessity. I'd go for it. You can always go back. The super would be easier/better as a GL, but the 67 wouldn't be bad. The suspension "limits" your choices in upgrades.
Just limit the mods to things you can undo.
Screw the purists.

Im not a purist by any means, but I do appreciate classic beetles andrustbucket wrote:You can black out the trim to avoid the body work. Smoothing the dash isn't really a German Look necessity. think that there are plently of early beetles that hava already been
hacked or shaved in the past and it would be better to use one of them
if you are going to get crazy.
Wiley, thats not a bad idea. Ive seen alot of nice European GL's that
retained all the chrome trim. It especially looks good with Chrome
Porsche wheels
