General Questions on EJ20T Conversion

Post by flat_iv »

I have several questions regarding a Ej20T convesrion.

1. Why are some conversions moving their transmission forward 2"?

2. If people are getting JDM engines where are they getting the electrical fitting for the engine?

3. Is everyone using and aftermarket engine management system?

4. Does anyone have dimension on a EJ20T L, W, H, and from the center of the crank to the top of intercooler or bottom of oil pan?

Sorry for all the questions. Any help would be appreciated.

Although I do not yet have the EJ20T engine I have been following the threads. Here is my take on some of your questions.

Q) Why are some conversions moving their transmission forward 2"?
A) To clear the decklid and rear apron once the engine is installed. Also I believe that a lot of the guys moving the trannys are using Porsche units, and I believe they are longer. It can be done without the move of the tranny but moving it forward in the car makes for a cleaner install. Also you get slightly better weight dist. so the car isnt so tail whip happy.

Q) If people are getting JDM engines where are they getting the electrical fitting for the engine?
A) Most of the JDM engines come with a cut engine harness only, no ECU. Some brave souls are making this thing work by modding it. Some get harnesses from junkyards and modding them. But I think most are getting aftermarket engine management systems with harness.

Q) Is everyone using and aftermarket engine management system?
A) I think a lot of guys are starting to go theat route right off the bat. Used to be they'd use the stock ECU, some still are. But even a lot of the guys running stock ECU's are switching over to aftermarket engine management systems. With the stock ECU you are limited on what you can squeeze out of the engine. And thats after you get done with all the tinkering with the stock ECU to foll it for all the junk your harness is missing.

Q) Does anyone have dimension on a EJ20T L, W, H, and from the center of the crank to the top of intercooler or bottom of oil pan?
A) I dont know this one... But I'm sure someone can help.
