Deck Height

Post by Peachbug »

Hi there,

I am building a 1914cc engine using a c/w crank, mahle b&p and standard rods, can anyone tell me what the deck height will be without me actually building the engine???

I need to know this so I can calculate the CC to bore the head out for to run turbo..

Thanks

Andrew

You probably use new cases, so this is irrelevent but this poor aussie has to machine the face of the case to ensure the barrels sit true (also it needed to be machined to 94mm bore or whatever ) so this will effect deck hieght. It would be nice to know in advance but the only way for me is to build the bottom end & measure.
regards Glenn.

For compression purposes deck hight is the distance from the top of the piston (at TDC) to the top (sealing surface) of the cylinder.

Deck Height

Im not sure if i understand your question completly, but i can give you some examples.
if you intened to run about the minumum deck height of .050" you would need to run about 70cc combustion chamber to accomplish a 7:1 ratio. When i built Jims little turbo motor, we left the 55cc chambers as the heads came, and i stuffed the deck at .140" to get our desired 7:1 cr.
but one thing you dont specify is what compression you are looking for.
if your looking for an actual deck height for a 69 crank with stock rods and the 94's there are to many variables involved to give you a precise number. (difference in machining tolerances between crank, case, rods, p&c's, etc) What i think you will need to do is bite the bullet and take the time, assemble things to find some real numbers, then massage the heads, and deck height as needed.
