100% weight transfer!

Post by Matt Keene »

Well guys; finally made into the twelves at Bug Jam! I'd like to thank all of you who posted info on how to set up my car for best weight transfer and traction. My car ran a personal best of 12.76 @ 104 mph with the front wheels lifting over a foot in the air off the start line and then lifting again whilst shifting into second!!!!! The experience was awesome- the car has been absolutely transformed! The slicks played a great part in the transformation, but the suggested suspension tips worked fantastically. Weight transfer is now 100% !!!!!! Big thanks again...

Congratulations. Quick question, who set your track, etc. on the car, I'm having trouble finding somebody to do a four wheel alignment.

Kick Ass
now, just wait until you actually loose sight of the horizon, then things get that much more touchy as you feel it drift to the side and you cant see where you are going.
And dont kid your self, you know you want to do that. And you will get there. heheheh
(if you arn't already there)

I set all the suspension, track etc myself. I set the front toe-in to 30 minutes (1/2 degree of toe-in). the rear was set to run dead parallel. Bare in mind that I have converted this car to IRS so the settings may differ for swing axle cars. Any tyre fitting service should be able to set at least your front tracking and I see no reason why they can't set the rear either. Just point them to where it all adjusts...

The wheelstands certainly were a new experience for me, but they are one big adrenaline rush! They can be a little dody if the car launches slightly sideways with the front wheels in the air as you have no means of correcting the oversteer until the wheels touch down again. Having said that, I love the feeling...

That driver in the blue chopped bug looks like a good lookin lad, eh??

Pic2 looks way cool.

With launches like that, guess it's time to start saving for gearbox parts. By the way my engines out now, ready for the intercooler fitment and M62 blower. I'll have my revenge.....

For the info of everyone else, the reason why the decklid and rear bumper are off on my car is cos some muppet rear ended me that afternoon. Not, as the comentator said, so everyone could see my engine.

See you next time.

Gonna head to Spa in Belgium for the Bug Show. It'll be the first time I race the Oval on the eigth of a mile, so I'm interested to see how the eigth compares to the quarter. Anyone going from this forum? Would be good to hook up with some fellow dubbers from the UK! Don't quite know how I'm gonna transport my slicks and tools to Spa as I'll be driving the bug all the way (not a street car eh Moggy?...) and have little room inside cause of the 10 point roll cage! Better get AA European cover...

Nice on Matt.

I wish I could come with u but the bugs off the road due to the smack at Bug Jam and I'm working at the time of the show, also in Belgium (Kortijk) the other side of the country though. Thats one show thats not gonna escape me next year if it's the last thing I do.....

Hows that crap turbo oil pump thing??? do you think it'll make the journey? or have you replaced it with something else.

Re: takin your kit over, how about askin some of the UK traders if they've got any spare room??? It's a long shot but you never know.

I'm currently busy fittin this water/air intercooler, behind the back seat, can't wait to see the power increase results. Ever thought of fitting one on yours?

Anyway good luck lad, let us know how you get on.
