irish bloke seeks direction to build a big type 4!!

Post by colinD »

Ive moved here form the type 4rum as I would like to build my Type 4
I intend to buy the majority of bits from jake but dont want an egine kit
cam rods pistons cylinders rods etc

machine services are kinda limited, and where technicaly machined bits are needed beond the wideing of cylinder bores or similar well, that will dictate another purchase from jake

I have at the minute two unknow 914 engines and a bus 2 litre and plan on using 914 gear ratios
the engine is going into my '68 912
I like the prospect of twicw the factory HP and bags of torque
for donuts and power slides-IN THE DRY!!

will need to commute about 1 hour at a time in traffic( drove ten miles the other day in first gear  )

jake you hinted at a train of thought on the type 4rum and so I'm dyin to know what you would have in mind.

cheers

Please remove the duplicate post below this one.

You will notice a button that says DELETE in the upper right hand
corner of the post.

Nevermind, Jake will have to delete it......

whoops
sorry damn double post

anyway
in hindsight I guess my question would be
I want to purchase from jake a crank, cam, pistons and cylinders. to build a big type 4 for my 912
would like to keep up with the new golf GTI 8) ( maybe)
I'm gonna use my own core.
I have a set of CB h beams stroker length& chevy jounal-are these suitable? better to use the 2 litre rods??- or buy new ones
should I port my own heads or send them for a magic touch to you

and what else do I need to consider

is there any huge gap in my understanding you need to set me strait on

Don't even think of porting your own heads especially the 914 2.0L ones. Send them to Len at HAM Inc to be rebuilt properly and he can also set them up with the proper valve size for what you need.

Cheaper in the long run to buy a engine kit complete with all the matching parts for a proven engine combo.
