There is only one reason a man would run an engine with that much work into it and not change the oil. You're one sick scientist Jake. :) Now that you have the combo down better I'm sure you'll get your 270. I doubt there is much you could do to it that it wouldn't have enough torque.

What bore and stroke do you have in mind for a smaller version?

80X105.07 would be the small version.. It would allow sick camshaft profiles that can't be ran with the extra 6mm of stroke I currently have...

Now its just a matter of swapping, swapping and more swapping of camshafts since the heads are basically developed..

Jake if that is what your worn nickies look like, how about selling me some of your used jugs

Yeah, I dont buy things used, unless they are vintage (Beetles) but take a nice discount off those "used" nickies  and they would sell like none's buisiness.

Overhead cams would give you some very interesting options for stroke ;)

Wonder how the Apfelbeck guys are doing....

I've been waiting (I gave up waiting a long time ago  ) for mock-up heads from Len so I can develop a Tangerine header for your billet heads. If I'm out of the picture at this point maybe I should get my heads and all those stub pipes back. :(

(just teasing btw)

Extremely nice Jake!
Especially since it doesn't look like such an exteme combo from those pics and thats probably just where the trick is. :D

I gather you have one of the billet Scat cranks by the look of it.
Does yours have single drilled (as in non-X-drilled) journals as well?

Thanks,
Walter

Chris,
You are not out of the picture... I'll be getting an arrangement from you to test against Tiger's arrangement at some point, but don't forget that this arrangement will be getting used in a certain 914 soon and A-1 doesn't make a 914 header...

Wally,
The combo is not that exotic, I did that on purpose this first time around because we had enough variables to contend with and didn't need to add any more. The cam is quite odd with its intake/exhaust characteristics..

That is a Billet crank as you expected.. It will be getting 5 pounds shaved from it before the engine goes back together- its way too heavy! The next arrangement also incorporates Titanium rods for some weight savings as well..

WOW. Adopt me man!

That is amazing Jake. It does look like the room is tight, but there's room.
82mmx96 does sound like a good combo. I'll volunteer for a test. :D

Cool!, but is yours X-drilled or not (like mine)?

Tnx,

Can you hear the cam with those straight gears Jake?

Nope, the straight cuts were very quiet, thats partially due to the extremely light valve spring tension that we were able to get by with.. I also touched the gears up by hand to get rid of the noise- I wanted it silent...

I'm not one for something that looks or sounds fast.... A smooth 800 RPM idle gets them every time!

I wonder what that endplay was setup for, since the crank is so large.

I still wonder what an 82mmx94mm would be like in a type 4, or even 82mmx96mm

I already have an 82X96 combo...
That extra 2mm of stroke increases difficuly by 200%
