FAO Jake..

Post by dubbedup2 »

Hi mate, looking for a price for a kit to convert the Typ IV to 200mm flywheel and if possible a kit to use in a swing axle beetle gearbox. It's going into a split van after I straight axle the rear.

Thanks in advance

Since it's going in a camper, I aint looking for anything with balls out HP, but just a torquey lump nice n lazy, but with a bit of go when required. I would be happy around the 100hp mark.

Thing is I have just found out it's a CU engine (I actually really like the idea of the hydraulic tappets) but I am worried about converting it to upright cooling.. Any suggestions?

Why worry about upright cooling??? The DTM fits like a glove in a Splitty and provides much better cooling than any other system.

I do not sell any Hydro cams, nor do I use them, nor do I promote them- Because I hate them and what they do to the engine!

If your engine core is a CU with the enclosed breather chimney, going upright will be a challenge..

Yeah the CU really looks like the wrong choice. Spoke to another guy in the UK that has DTM, and he cant praise it high enough. MMMMM, going to have to head back to the drawing board.

Hi Sam, I think i spoke to you at Bug Jam this year mate. Were you over talking to my mate with a 56 Oval about getting his dells tuned?

Yeah DTM seems to be the way to go, just need to get a good engine sourced :?

That'll be me then singing the praises of the DTM! Fitted perfectly bar a small trim to the side where the inlet manifold sits.

BTW - you don't need a 200mm conversion flywheel. Get a 210 or 215mm bus flywheel and with the pilot bearing mod, will fit straight into the T1 transmission. That's what I have in my Oval.

engines for sale

Post by mikeG15 »

I don't know if it will be of any help but there is a type 4 for sale at the moment on ebay.uk. Also I've just bought a 2 litre from a bloke called Dave Whateley ( he's english but living over here ) and he has at least one 1700 for sale. His business will send Jacob round the bend 'cos he converts buses etc from type 4 to 1600 Type 1 or diesel. Ironically he trades as the Ireland Aircooled Centre. His phone number is 02837548072
