about priming

Post by Getbackontrack »

I just finished the bodywork on my 61 bug, and had it sand blasted.. now its completelty free of rust and ready for the paint booth, but offcourse it needs buffing.. I have decided to prime and sandbuff the car myself so I only have to pay the shop for spraying the car..

could someone tell me a little about how I should start out and what kind off layers of primer you recommend..

I was thinkin of takin it down to bare metal around the spots where it has been sandblasted because these places are very rouf, and just run over the rest of the cars original paint with a 150 grit sandpaper, is that a good choise? and then prime those places I have sanded down to bair metal with a good primer.

After that do I need another primer before I spray on the thicker primer (dont know what its called, but that stuff you can buff buff away small imperfections in) ??

furthermore, do I need another primer over the -buffprimer- to seal things up?

How long time can I give myself between the layer off -buffprimer- and the -sealprimer- before it starts to suck up water?? (the car is in a warm garage)

Hope someone can help me out...

Thanks in regard.. Jakob

Thanks for the info.. I still need to know what you grid sandpaper you use before etching primer.. can I use 150?

Furtermore, do I need to sand the primer before the body filler is sprayed on?
