Let's talk about valve guides...

Post by dstar »

OK, Should I whack the guides off at the level of the floor of
the chamber or just shorten them 1/4 inch?

If I shorten them, I lose support for the valve....
:(

What if I just put the offending part of the guide on a diet and
slightly enlarge the cross-section at the area where the guide resides?

Good idea or no?

Check this out for DSTAR's Valve Diet Plan:

To little?, not enough?, or just cut Da BASTIDS off level?

I taper the intakes and shorten them from the port side about 4mm.

The ex. guides get shortened and rounded.

I only do this on race engines now as the difference in flow is only measurable after around .400" lift on the in. and .250 on the ex, meaning it will only make a slight difference, and even then only at peak or near peak revs. On the street you can't measure the difference in performance.

OK, so it won't make as much difference in the *quality* of
charge delivered on a slightly massaged "Q" head?

I know it's just 2316ccs, but I want it to be the best that *I*
can make it!
