There are scores of ways of doing this. I used TopLine MaXX struts, front and rear brakes studded for my bolt pattern (I have BBS wheels for modern VWs instead of Porsche, but the procedure would be similar), and some other TopLine stuff.

TopLine makes products for Super Beetles only. VDubEngineering (formerly VDubCustoms) have a variety of set-ups. They are a Canadian company and they work with all Beetles. Both companies enjoy a top drawer reputation.

There are other choices involving Porsche parts, one-off parts, and/or European companies. My suggestion is to visit GermanLook.com. There are all sorts of approaches discussed there.

Options include using Porsche brake parts, the use of narrower beams (standard Beetle), spacers, wider fenders, disk brakes on all four wheels, disks on the front and Type 3 drums on the rear, and on and on and on.

If you have ever visited the Type4rum or Aircooled Technology forums here, you probably have read Jake Raby's mantra (often repeated by others as well) of "it's all in the combination." That is true of his successful engines and mating those engines to other components. It is also true when figuring wheels/tires/suspension/brakes.

You have to get the right combination of components to get the proper bolt pattern, the proper amount of lowering, the proper offset, the proper diameter (others have gone larger than 16" wheels), the proper width, the proper tire sizing. You also have to figure on what adjustments you want, can live with, and what you refuse to do. And all of this probably has to be within a budget.

The nice thing is there are so many options available. If you are locked in with certain areas (like a specific wheel choice, must use stock fenders, etc.), that will narrow down your choices. And quite likely, someone at GL.com has done it within your parameters.

i dont know if this helps but these are 17x7 wheels with 205x40 front and 17x9 wheels with 255x40 rear and stock front fenders, 1.5 inch creative car craft rear fenders. I think they fit nice i get asked often if the rears are stock. so measure and measure 5 more times to be sure.cause when its done its done and its hard to change. not hard per say but hard on the bank account.

On my 1958 I run 17x7.5 all around, with a 52 offset. 205/40/17, (soon to be 215/45/17 rears). 4" narrowed beam and spacers front and rear. Stock fenders.

And for 16" fuchs, 195/50/16 front and 205/55/16 rear, no spacers needed.
