914 Gas gauge in bottom-of-tach mod?

Post by Piledriver »

Before I rip in and try it, is anyone familiar enough with the guts of a 914 tach to make a guessimate if the fuel gauge could be grafted in at the bottom?

I want to put a quad temp gauge, or SOMETHING else in that left gauge spot, and the bottom of the tach has a nice gas gauge sized dead area.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

I tried and tried but it won't fit unless you use a 930 tach .

Thank you!
Darn.

Perhaps I'll get a cheapie generic tach and use its guts...

On the topic of gas gauges:

Does anyone know the range the gauge is looking for? I'm transplanting the cluster into a rabbit pickup--- just want to determine which sender I need.

You need the Bug sender. I think it's in the range of 0-30 ohms.

Great, thanks. I'll have to test the current one in the pickup to see what it says and either modify it or swap it out.
