These instruments are not cheap! The thermocouples alone are 75 bucks each! The logger also wasn't a cheap device, it was more than the SPA gauges. Thank goodness I had Bill K put it all together for me at a good deal!

EGT is an important reading. With EGT you can watch tuning changes and get the most from the engine. I monitored it here because I wanted to see the effects of EGT on head temps and fuel mileage.

Jake,

The LM1 by innovate....

do you have to use it with fuel injection?

Or can you use it to monitor just A/F ratios.....

from what I read, having the af ratio correct will give better performance......

and, I have 2 other v8's that I could use the LM1 on .....

what do you use your LM1 to monitor, and how is it set up?

thanks,

big al

Hi Jake,

After watching a few of the charts of the trip and since you are well back now, why did you run the trip at such a low AFR? I saw mostly 12:1 dead on all the way
It would explain a lot of the fuel consumption. I understand low AFR gives lower head temps, but may not be needed when you are 'cruising' at 75-80 mph.

Thanks,
Walter

Wally,
Honestly the AFR portion of the data logs is not accurate. The LM 1 sensor had been used with leaded fuel here at the shop o a race engine a couple of weeks before we left and about 1/2 way through the trip I quit even paying attention to it and ran by the EGT.

The only sensor that we did not have a back up for was the LM-1 and while I could have sopped at a parts store and hacked one into the system it just wasn't worth it.

When I knew the LM 1 was inaccurate was after a trek that the LM 1 said was at 11:1 but when I looked at the tail pipe and gave it the "Finger test" I knew there was no way the LM-1 was correct. Here is a pic of the pipe after the finger test.

Ah, yeah, I agree; 12:1 would be pitch black. I know 8)

Thanks for clearing that mystery up for me Jake.
Nice picture BTW
