Ah, if only I had the money! 0-60 4 secs flat? that is crazy. Is the tranny stock spec or different R&P?

Since the car only weighs 1200 pounds the gear ratios are altered for better use of the torque. This one uses a 3.88 R/P and in 4th gear could top out at over 160 MPH if someone was CRAZY enough to try it..

I have been 120 in a 550 and it certainly wasn't very stable!

I also made one change to the cam L/C to move the power up just a tad for this application.

Been dreaming about owning one of these for a long time... Again, if I had the money it would be mine!

Ah well, someone's gonna have a sweet toy!

Ditto!

160mph with my fat behind it should not be too unstable. I wonder if there is a way to add weight to the frame to make it a little heavier and also add weight to the lower center of gravity.

Dont add weight, move it...

Battery and fuel tank location can make a big difference, as above mount the seats as low as possible... get the unsprung weight right down too...

Bit of forethought and some sensible changes can make a world of difference to the way a vehicle handles :)

The car handles great- all 550s do!

The issue is that the car is too light for super high speeds to have any stability- even in a straight line... At 120 MPH a 550 feels like a feather on the road, like it's ready to blow over on it's back... Hell if a 917 can do it a 550 probably could too!

what about upgrading rim/tire sizes. I'm sure your limited to what you can run, but I would want to run 165's on a 0-60 4 sec. car
Oh yeah I'd luv to have that car.

What Jake's talking about is air management. 1200 lbs. at 100 plus would benefit from some time in the wind tunnel. Lift becomes deadly without some serious design aids (underside airflow, diffusers, etc.) when your speed is that high. Take a look at Ferrari's new 599. No wings ... but the designed in air management creates proper downforce (front and rear) to handle 200+mph.

As for tire size, you can run 195/65's on the front, and 205/60's on the rear. Chuck and my father are big fans of the "tall and skinny" tires, but I like to have some meat on the road.

There are a few pictures of Chuck (floating 'round the net) at 136MPH at the salt flats. You can see the dust roilling off the rears, and the fronts seem to be about 1/2" in the air!! I also remember when Pat Downs drove Bob's turbo spyder at the Run and Gun. Chuck asked him how he liked it at speed , and his response was something like... there's no point in holding the wheel, 'cause the fronts aren't on the ground!

We've done a few years worth of testing/tweeking and have made an aero kit for our track cars. Last year, we hit a hair under 300KPH at Interlagos... not too shabby for some bolt on aero mods.. It is fugly, but in a way that makes me LOVE it.

I'm glad you're playing with one of our spyders Jake! I think you'll even surprise yourself with the power/performance when all is said and done! AND this is going to make one HELL of a car for someone!!

I'd love to have a 550, in like a dark fire engine red. Maybe some day..

That's rockin, but I know a car you can buy that can do it in 2.9, it's not aircooled, if you can shift fast enough.......
