Tire Recommendations needed...

Post by Southernbug »

I'm currently building a 74 standard beetle for autocross, vintage racing, and road rallying. The car must remain streetable so ground clearance and tire rub are a concern. I am to a decision point on wheels & tires and would like some input.

Here is my current setup:

74 Standard Beetle (Very light, no interior, no bumpers, plexi windows, etc)
Front 2.5" Dropped Spindles - Stock Beam with Adjusters
Stock front torsion leaves & stock rear torsion bars
Rear Sway-Away adjustables spring plates
Koni Red adjustables front and rear
Whiteline 20mm adjustable front swaybar
Whiteline 18mm non-adjustable rear swaybar

I plan on having two sets of wheels and tires. One for the street and one for racing. Please give me recommendations for both street and racing for wheels & tires keeping in mind the car must be streetable with minimal rub and is not a "race only" vehicle.

Thanks!

I use Falken Ziex tires 185-60-15 on 5.5" 8-spokes and absolutely love the grip and handling.

Hoosier has a new skin called "The Speedster"
It comes in a 185 & 205 tread width. That might be something to look at if your not going wide.
