Ground clearance, deep sumps.

How much ground clearance would I loose with one of your deep sumps?

Currently the sump sits 5" off the ground (lowest point on case 4 3/4", exhaust 5 1/4") and i'm concerned about loosing ground clearance for our speed hump inhabited local roads (but equally concerned about loosing oil pressure on a track).

My current thought is a 2 qt accusump with an EPC (20-25psi version?) plus a tuna can or deep-sump depending on which is less prone.

I think on the Le Mans circuit I suffered with both cornering g-force (accelerating around sweeping left hander) and pumping the sump dry (changing up from 2nd gear to 3rd gear at 6000rpm, coming out of the S's onto the grandstand straight )

Are the BAS "tuna-cans" sold in Europe the same as those refered to on STF?

I have a BAS 'tunacan', a 914 sump-plate (perforated under the pushrod tube exits) and a stock oil pump and had no issues with oil pressure after my track day last thursday:



And believe me, we were flying and exiting tight corners in second gear at 6200 to third

Nice picture! How deep is the tunacan and how far off the ground is it when installed in your car?

Its 3 cm's lower on the sump (1 inch = 2.5 cm) and you will never hit the ground with that. Mostly also because it is rather close to the shock mountings (closest to the ground normally)

The even nicer ones are made from alu and are ribbed for a tad extra bit of oil cooling (Remmele and Gerd Weiser e.a. IIRC)

Yes, shock mountings are 4", so that would make the sump then about 5mm below the suspension damper mounts.
