I'm having custom headers made for my 914 based trike project. The header fabricator has asked me to supply just the flanges fom the stock headers that attache to the exhaust ports so he won't have to spend time making them. I asked my used parts supplier and he doesn't have any used headers but suggested that 2.0L vanagon headers would be just as good to cut the flanges from ... is this true?
BTW My engine started life as a 1.7L but is now a 2.0L (heads, pistons, crank etc.)
thanks everyone

Depends on the Vanagon. What most of us think of as "Vanagon heads" have very rectangular exhaust ports. Your heads have oval exhaust ports, so the rectangular stuff won't fit.
