Questions about auto X

Post by Codeman »

Would it be possible to run a rail buggy in a Solo class? I am sitting about half way between St. Louis and Memphis and I know that they run at Gateway a couple times a month. Would I/ Could I fit in a class? I used to love running this thing through the corners. It has spent its entire 15 years on the street and at the dragstrip and now I'd kind of like to try something different.

uuhhh
How are the brakes on it? Can it really corner good?
I'm sure there is a class somewhere you could run, I've seen manx style cars running, so sure.
What was a good 1/4 mile for you? Good luck......JR

The rule of thumb is, you can *always* run in Modified A.

The only restrictions on ModA are that the car must be over 700 lbs. (without driver) and have at least a 6 foot wheelbase.

Now are you going to be competitive in ModA? I doubt it. It may be that you can run in one of the slower Mod classes, but I'm not really familiar with them.

I'd suggest going and trying it out for fun sometime. Yeah, you'll finish dead last, but you would your first time anyway even if you had a car that was purpose build for ModA. Who cares. It's fun as all get out!

Note to the novice: Mod and Street-Mod are whole different ball games.

Thanks guys I might just give it a try one of these days. As far as drag racing it has all been 1/8th mile and it has run a best of 10.12. Its just a 1641 nothing special. Right now I run rear brakes only but I am considering putting front brakes back on it. Drums front and rear. I am running factory front w/c on the rear and will put rear w/c on the front to try to offset the braking some and probably a prop valve. It doesn't corner bad I have gone into curves hard enough to pick up a front wheel and it sticks. I'm gettig ready to put it back on the street after being parked for about 3 years. I just sold my other drag car and I'm ready to dive back into VWs.

You might get bounced by the safety steward for not having the front brakes. Rear only isn't a good way to get around a twisty course. I'd call the region you want to run with and ask them directly. SCCA has a class for every car, but not always a competitive one. I run a Super in HS/Tire. I'm really only there for fun anyway. Good luck, Greg

I think a AC Rail could carry a big can of WA, even in A Mod.
Start with a mid-engine frame, build it light & low.
Battery & fuel up front.
Kinda like a body-less Spyder replica.
An Ariel Atom VW style.

That would be cool. I drool everytime I watch a video of that thing. Check out my avatar that is a little idea I had for a drag buggy. Single seat, turbo and just big enough to get my fat butt in. LOL Hmm I might have to break out the pencils and put some ideas on paper. A freind of mine has a complete 914, well complete if you don't take into account how much of the body is missing due to rust  .

Actually I found these pics on my hard drive, looks like someone has already done it. After looking at this it looks ALOT like an Atom don't ya think.

PS I don't know whos pics these are but (other than the one that has holeshot on it) and I'm not taking credit but I couldn't find them on the web again so I'm hosting them. I'd love to see this thing in person, nothing but a go kart on steroids.
