091 box into type 3 fast back

Post by 72type3wrx »

hey guys

have you guys done the kombi box conversion, ive looked heaps but cant find a good thread on it.

basiclly i want to know if you cant mount the box in roughly the same position as the bug box, ie have the driveshafts straight with the wheels without moving the engine.

and the nosecone (shifter) on a type 3 is different to a bettle, but i know it it easy to convert but not how.

with the berg adaptor can i simply bolt my nose cone onto it? will that work?

And how much will the kombi box come forward? do i need to cut much? will my torsion bars still work fine it i cut the center out ?

And the type 3 doesnt have any rear mounts (horns) for the gearbox, will this be a problem? can i make a custom mount for the front of the box and no rear mount?

Cheers

I am just starting to look at this installation. I have done a 091/bug, now my notch is eating tranz as the big t4 motopr combined with the weight of my car is eating t1 boxes.

Do you have a wrx engine in you T3 or just in your sig line? :wink:

90kW = ~120hp

Tom, thanks for pointing that out...so, let's see pictures of the ENGINE in the car! And my big question, does the engine fit under the decklid :?:

The bus box is longer than a t1, the 091 bell housing being even longer than the 002 bell housing. Most people use the 002 bell housing and input shaft.

The front t3 mount will not work without some re-work. The Berg bus box conversion rotates the t1 nose cone 14 degress. I suggest adding something like the Berg 5spd mount to the tie it all together.

The gear ratios to work with the 4.57 R&P will probably all be aftermarket depending on your requirements.
