hey all,
i need to know which exhaust to use with which heads. i bought a 2.0 litre no heads.
i'm not sure what size or what year to use with the motor or what exhaust peices to use to make a complete system in my 65 bug.

You need to invest in Joe Cali's upright conversion manual. Exhaust (and heater) options are covered in the manual. Basically, you want a set of early (pre-'79) heads. The 1.7, 1.8 and 2.0 heads will all work fine as long as they are not the later 2.0 liter heads because they have a unique shaped exhaust port.
The Cali manual explains how to modify a set of 411/412 heater boxes for the T4 upright conversion. The 411/412's used a gas heater so the heater boxes do not have the fins inside the box. The heater box for the 411/412 was basically a pre-heater box, not a stand alone heater system. If you need a T1 style heater box for cabin heat (defroster) in your T1, you can easily modify the Transporter heater boxes for use in the T1 car. These heater boxes are hude and should be extreamly efficient for heating a T1.
