first race of the season completed

Post by Charles R »

Well, the ghia survived the first race of the year. The result was good. I got 3rd of 5, posting a time of 48.xxx. I also got a chance to size up the competition. It's going to be a fun challenge.

The guy to beat in my opinion runs a 77 Porsche Carrera. He's been running this car for years in E-Prepared naturally aspirated. And last year I watched him come within 1.3 seconds of matching the TTOD shifter kart. This year he stepped up to a turbo engine, and X-Prepared. His best was a 45.xxx plus one.

His co-driver, a young kid I know, posted a 50.xxx

Second place was a Toyota AE86 that I haven't seen before. He posted a 47.xxx

Fifth place was a Honda S2000. I never saw the car, or how modded it might have been.

Also showing XP tags, but not on the results sheets, was an E36 BMW M3 powered by a Corvette LS engine. This car promises to be fast, but it's still being developed.

The Ghia was having some misfire issues, but I think we have a solution for that. We're also going to swap out the T-bird T3 turbo for a t3-t4 hybrid.

Once the new turbo is on and sorted, the car should be pushing over three hundred ponies. That should give the Porsche a few nevous ticks :)

I dunno Charles. I think we need a better look at that machine. :D
What have you done that makes the Ghia an XP Class car?
Is XP the "new" class for WAO cars?

XP is based on weight otherwise it is pretty open with any wheel and wings. It is 1200lbs + 200lbs per liter. A turbo uses a 1.4 displacement factor. XP is 400lbs less than SM2 and 600lbs less than SM. I look at XP as EM for the street. A really Brutal class.

a brutal class it is! the min weight was why I chose XP. The original plan was SM2, then they buggered the weight. I just couldn't bring myself to adding that much. Last time we weighed the Ghia it was 1750lbs., although with the wheels and turbo setup I'm sure it's close to 1900 now.

Which BTW, just happens to be about the weight for a 2332 turbo

I plan on showing off the car a bit more soon. I've got my youtube name ready, and will be bringing the camera to the events soon. in fact my next round is this sunday. I'm currently fixing a slight, "wastegate malfunction"* but the car should be ready to go again tomorrow. 8)

I finally got the oppertunity to drive this beast today and i am still sore from the workout  . The car is freakin fast and leaves very little time to set the car up for the next turn. I autocrossed my 92 GTI all last year and i forgot how much fun a real wheel drive car with some power is. It definately motivated me to finish my autocross oval now!! I'm sure charles will post some pics

Thanks Charles

I'd like to see an autocrossing oval, too.
