6v VW Wiper to Ford Ranger Column

Post by Kelroy »

Ok guys I am to this point. I have an 89 Ford Ranger Column installed into my buggy. The question is the wiper motor is 6v and everthing else is 12v. What is the best direction to go in for the money to get them working. I would like to keep the intermitent wiper function ??? :?: :?

Do you know how the ranger column sends the "intermittent" signal.

I'm assuming you're running 12volt.. correct?

Have you seen Speedy Jim's site on a drop resistor?

the intermittent function is part and parcel of the wiper motor so unless you are using the ford wiper motor not much chance of those two being compatible let alone the fact that you are using an old 6v motor

I have seen those small control panels advertised that has a dial for adjustment of speed. Is that the same thing as speedy jims?

bob I think there is a governor box that is between the switch and motor that the ranger uses but I havent been able to track down what each wire into and out of that box does. :? I have searched the ranger web sites but the most they do is just plug and play no info.

there may be some kind of add on control box you need something that drives a timer function for the intermittent function and even then there still persists the problem of the voltage non compatibility

Will the control panel that Mid America Motorworks sells that has a varible speed work? I can just go with that and be ok. It is supposed to convert from 12v down to 6v and give aleast a varible speed. Anyone had any luck with this product?http://www.800luvbugg.com/shop?frame=2.4969
